"Bolt from the Blue"


This picture shows lightning reaching far from a storm. The photographer guesses that it hit the ground about 3 to 5 miles away from the storm.

If you were standing there and it was daytime, the lightning would have come out of a blue sky with no cloud above you and no rain falling on you. This is why flash to bang counting is so very important. Remember that lightning can strike 10 or possibly even 15 or more miles from a cloud.
